PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Special Education Advisory Council

New Visions Academy has a Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEAC) that meets during the school year after PTO meetings.  This Council is made up of special education and general education staff and parents of students who have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP).  The Council helps the New Visions Academy special education department provide optimal programming for our New Visions special education students.

Our Council Vision Statement:  The vision of the New Visions Academy Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEAC) is to:  provide the members input into the decision making process of our special education department, provide a communication link with the community at large, advocate for high quality education programs for all learners, and assure the implementation of the district mission to all students.

Our SEAC Mission Statement:  The purpose of the SEAC shall be to assist the district (New Visions Academy) in its mission to prepare all students for the future by providing a collaborative forum in which parents of children receiving special education services and the district can work together for the continuous improvement of special education services.

Our Council has chosen to emphasize communication with parents of children receiving special education services this school year.  As part of that goal, we are sending this letter to inform our parents of the availability of the Council and to encourage parents to participate in our Council activities.  As stated above, our SEAC meets after PTO meetings.  These meetings are noted in your student calendars with additional notice included in Wednesday Folders going home prior to our meetings.

We will also have information appearing on our New Visions Academy website in the future and we will notify you when this SEAC connection becomes available.

If you are interested in participating in our Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEAC) as a permanent member, please call me at:  612-706-5522.  If you are interested in attending as an occasional guest, just join us after our PTO meetings in the Kretsch library.
